The confusion, she says, lies in the term “hormone therapy,” which many women assume means they will be receiving hormones during breast cancer treatment. Dr. Layman says a more accurate term would be “hormone suppression therapy” or “anti-estrogen therapy,” which means that the experts are actually removing the effects of estrogen in a patient’s body as part of breast cancer treatment – helping treat and, in many cases, prevent the disease.
