After recapping a year of accomplishments, Michael A. Caligiuri, MD, director of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center and CEO of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, acknowledged in his annual State of the Cancer Program Address that there is still progress to be made — and challenges to face along the way. But no matter the obstacles, which he outlines in his speech, Dr. Caligiuri said, “We’ve had much bigger challenges in the past, and we really blew through the doors.” He noted that the assets that strengthen the OSUCCC – James include its connection to The Ohio State University, a strong brand, talented and innovative faculty and staff, and more. Looking forward, Dr. Caligiuri announced a refreshed strategic plan — one stretching toward becoming a national leader in cancer research, quality, patient safety and value-based cancer-care delivery. “We’re marching along on our strategic plan, and we want to be best in class. We need to be best in class,” Dr. Caligiuri said. One of the ways the OSUCCC – James is doing this is through a data-sharing partnership called ORIEN that will improve access to and knowledge of the latest cancer therapies.
