About Me
As an orthpedic hand and upper extremity surgeon, I first like to understand how my patients’ medical issues affect their lives, including everything from their job to their hobbies. I spend some time understanding the history of their presenting problem and then after a careful examination, I try to diagnose the problem. In my practice, it is important to me that patients understand their diagnosis, so that together we can have an informed discussion of how to best address their problem.
I find the hand and upper extremity to be a biomechanical wonder. As a prior engineer, the delicate and meticulous interplay between the bones, ligaments, muscles, tendons and nerves fascinates me. In addition to helping patients, I also take pleasure in teaching what I know and sharing my experiences with the next generation of doctors and orthopedic surgeons. Finally, it is important to me that I contribute to the advancement of my field by performing research to continue to better understand the intricacies of the hand and arm for future patient care.
In my free time, I enjoy working on home projects, exercising and relaxing with my family.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. Dr. Goyal interrupted me more than twice while I tried to explain the details of my finger injury. I am a rock climber and have big personal goals with climbing that I only have 20-25 years left to achieve. I was disappointed with many things from the visit. I was hoping to get tests done and Dr. Goyal pushed that he clinically diagnosed me with an A2 pulley sprain by pushing on my finger with his hands. He had very little advice as far as recovery goes and seemed to not care or recognize the importance of my visit. I reached out to him via the MyChart messaging feature and let him know that I was disappointed with the visit. I expected more from OSU. I feel as if I ordered a MacBook and received a Dell. I am not one to see the doctor often because I prioritize nutrition and health above all else.

Dr. Goyal was amazing. He really listened to my concerns and tailored a surgical plan to give me the best possible outcome. He took his time and reviewed all my files, and all the possible options that he presented to me to. He made me feel like more than just any other patient. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing wrist/arm surgery!

Doctor didn't help to resolve my problem. Had to come twice within two month, but doctor said he can't help me. First time he said it's all will heal on it's own. Doctor didn't seem to care much.

Dr. Goyal came highly recommended by my PMER doctor. I believe from the little I know of him beyond my visits that he is thorough, skillful, a good communicator & that my surgery will be done with skill & precision. He also is a strong advocate for minimally invasive treatments & for people who can do it & have help with it to quickly manage their own care at home (per his OSW bio).
Dr. Goyal discussed the surgical options with me as well as the probable outcomes if I didn't elect surgery. I didn't want surgery & Dr. Goyal did not attempt to force it on me. I was extremely pleased with the care received.

Dr. Goyal took his time to learn about what led to my injury, and explained what options I had for treatment while explaining all potential outcomes of surgery. The time and care Dr. Goyal showed immediately developed a trust. Once we aligned a surgery bring the selected treatment, Dr . Goyal and the care team went into action immediately to get me my surgery scheduled very quickly - which was much appreciated.
