COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) and Kenneth’s Hair Salons & Day Spas are teaming up to raise awareness about breast cancer. Kenneth’s will give a free $10 gift card to everyone who has a screening mammogram at one of OSUCCC – James’s mammography locations from Sept. 15 – Nov. 15.
“Our partnership with Kenneth’s is part of a special breast cancer awareness promotion that we believe will help draw even more attention to the importance of breast health, not only during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, but beyond,” said Dr. William Farrar, breast surgical oncologist and director of the JamesCare Comprehensive Breast Center.
One in every eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. The James and Kenneth’s are teaming up to spotlight the importance of prevention and early detection of breast cancer. In addition, the promotion provides an opportunity to educate women that there is no such thing as a routine mammogram.
“At The James we believe there is nothing routine about detecting breast cancer;” said Dr. Michael Caligiuri, director of Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and CEO of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. “Our breast radiologists are experts in their field. They spend all day, every day reading and interpreting only mammograms, and this is a very important distinction because their trained eyes can lead to early detection.”
Statistics from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) show breast cancer survivors live longer when treated at an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center such as The James.
According to the American Cancer Society guidelines, monthly breast self-exams, a physical breast exam by a physician and annual mammograms after the age of 40 are key to helping detect breast cancer as early as possible. Earlier detection may lead to better prognosis.
Kenneth’s, known for trend-setting styles and world-class spas, agreed to work with The James in calling attention to the importance of breast health with the unusual and intriguing gift card idea.

Each OSUCCC – James mammography services location, as well as the Mobile Mammography Unit, provide the latest in digital mammography technology, are accredited by the American College of Radiology and certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In addition, registered licensed mammography experts administer the screenings.
