The INK4/ARF locus encodes three tumor suppressor genes frequently lost or silenced in human cancers (p15INK4b, p16INK4a, and p14ARF). Dr. Burd's lab aims to faithfully recapitulate the genetics of these tumors through the development of genetically engineered mouse models. In addition, they have pioneered in vivo imaging techniques that allow us to track the formation and progression of spontaneous cancers. Use of these technologies will provide mechanistic insight into the molecular processes governing tumor initiation, progression and therapeutic resistance. It is the goal to bridge the gap between bench science and clinical trials, generating faithful models for drug discovery and efficacy studies.
