Academic Title: Professor
Research Program: Cancer Control
About Me
More info forAs a hematologist at the OSUCCC – James, my clinical practice is focused on caring for patients with multiple myeloma and plasma cell disorders with a special emphasis on aging patients with cancer. I serve as medical director of the Oncogeriatrics Program, and I co-direct the multidisciplinary Cancer and Aging Resiliency Clinic (CARE). I am recognized in the top 10% of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction, and I have been named to the Castle Connolly Top Doctor and Exceptional Woman in Medicine lists.\r\n\r\nIn addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about research. My work centers on cancer and aging, specifically on improving health outcomes of patients with hematologic malignancies such as multiple myeloma or who have undergone a bone marrow transplant. I am focused on incorporating assessments of physiologic age into clinical trial design using aging biomarkers and standardized tools to globally evaluate the health of older adults.\r\n\r\nI am nationally recognized for my efforts to improve outcomes for older adults with cancer, and I am regularly invited to present my findings before prestigious institutions such as the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. I also serve as an editorial board member for the Journal of Geriatric Oncology, I am a founding member of the American Society of Hematology Scientific Symposium on Hematology and Aging, and I’m a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Older Adult Oncology standing panel.\r\n\r\nMy role at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center also includes teaching and training future physicians. I am a professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Hematology.
