Research Description

Research in the Parvin lab focuses on the biological processes involved in breast cancer.  We focus on pathways regulated by the BRCA1 and BRCA2 tumor suppressor proteins, and these include the repair of DNA damage, control of transcription, control of cell cycle progression, and centrosome control.  We use a variety of methods that include the use of informatics to generate hypotheses and biochemical and molecular biology experiments using tissue culture models.

Transinstitutional Work

As Director of the Biomedical Shared Resource, Dr. Parvin collaborates with a number of OSU labs in the analysis of data-intensive experiments, such as gene expression analysis and next-generation sequence analysis.  The Parvin laboratory collaborates with the Huang and Catalyurek groups to develop new informatics methods for deriving biologically useful hypotheses that can be tested in the laboratory.  The laboratory collaborates with breast cancer physicians in order to develop new antibody-based biomarker methods for the evaluation of breast cancer cases.  The Parvin laboratory is also in the Tumor Microenvironment program.
