General Research Interest

Clinical interests deal with the management of cancers of the liver, biliary tree, and pancreas as well as neuroendocrine cancers. Research in these areas include clinical trials, outcomes analysis, and molecular correlative studies. Basic science research focuses on the role of microRNAs in pancreatic cancer.

Research Description

My lab focuses on the mechanisms by which microRNAs are induced and function in pancreatic cancer. Specifically, we have an interest in how cellular stressors in the pancreatic cancer microenvironment result in the induction or repression of microRNAs, thus providing the pancreatic cancer cell a selective advantage. We also look at how cancer and non-cancer cells use microRNAs to communicate within the pancreatic tumor. Other collaborative studies investigate the use of microRNAs for early detection of premalignant and malignant lesions of the pancreas.

Transinstitutional Work

Our lab collaborates with other pancreatic cancer researchers on and off of the OSU campus. These include researchers in the College of Pharmacy and Department of Medicine at OSU, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the University of Verona, Italy.
