General Research Interest

Dr. Serovich’s scholarly work focuses broadly on issues that impact persons living with HIV and their families.

Research Description

My primary program of research centers on investigating the role of HIV disclosure to family and friends in reducing sexual risk related behaviors in men and mental health outcomes in women. The aims my work are to longitudinally investigate the relationship between disclosure, mental health, sexual risk, and social support and develop and test theoretical models of the relationship between disclosure, disclosure needs, and sexual risk-taking behaviors for HIV-positive men and women. This data has been used to develop and test manualized interventions to assist men who have sex with men disclose their serostatus to family members and casual sexual partners.
