General Research Interest

Tobacco control policy, smoking cessation

Research Description

Dr. Ferketich’s primary research interest is tobacco control, and on this topic she has worked on smoking cessation projects targeting underserved populations and a study examining clean indoor air policy adoption in the Appalachian region of the U.S. Two of her previous studies were funded by the American Legacy Foundation as collaborative grants with the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center in New York City. One study involved designing and implementing a clinic-based cessation program for Chinese American adults. Dr. Ferketich has most recently been working on projects in Ohio Appalachia. She has experience as a PI and co-investigator on cessation projects delivered to adults in Appalachian counties. She also has experience evaluating cessation programs in health care settings through her role as Co-PI on the Tobacco Treatment Centers (TTC) evaluation project in Ohio. Finally, Dr. Ferketich was the PI on a grant funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that involved examining the prevalence of clean indoor air ordinance adoption and the community-level factors associated with adoption of these ordinances in Appalachian states.
