Research DescriptionDr. Lai's research focuses on extracting and characterizing phenotype data from the electronic medical record of patients with samples in biorepositories to support retrieval of highly specifically defined specimens collected from patients. The development and evaluation of such technologies and methods is ultimately intended to support clinical-research specific activities including feasibility analyses, cohort discovery, and the conduct of correlative science studies (with a particular emphasis on the identification and verification/validation of bio-markers that correlate with disease diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment outcomes/toxicities).
Dr. Lai's research also includes the development of thin-client based volume imaging visualization resources to improve accessibility of small animal imaging datasets for cancer researchers. These efforts will improve the ability of researchers to analyze their datasets and will accelerate the pace at which cancer research can be done, while minimizing the impact on SAIC resources.
