General Research Interest

Dr. Papenfuss is an immunologist with an interest in how the tumor microenvironment and endogenous steroid hormones alter immune cell function. Her laboratory investigates how antigen presenting cells (e.g. dendritic cells and macrophages) are altered by steroid hormones (e.g. sex hormones) and how this affects adaptive (T cell) immune responses. Dr. Papenfuss is also a board certified veterinary (experimental) pathologist that evaluates pathologic alterations in animal models of human disease including both cancer and inflammatory diseases.
