Gastrointestinal

Gastrointestinal patients at OSUCCC–James have the full advantage of research and treatment breakthroughs developed by our nationally and internationally-recognized gastrointestinal oncologists, surgeons, and other cancer experts and researchers.

With an established reputation for the most complex and innovative gastrointestinal surgical procedures, OSUCCC–James is a high volume center for various gastrointestinal cancer surgeries including pancreatic cancer. It is also the only center in our region offering non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of various gastrointestinal cancers including esophageal cancer.

Committed to quickly taking research findings from discovery to patients, our knowledge results in cutting-edge treatments and improved outcomes for patients. Recent breakthroughs include:

  • Uncovering the source of some hereditary cancers, including hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer
  • Improving the current standard of treatment for metastatic pancreatic cancer, and quality of life for patients:
o Targeting pancreatic cancer and its environment including matrix and blood vessels.
o Targeting proteins responsible for a lot of the “starvation” effect seen with pancreas cancer.
  • Developing innovative therapies to improve survival and quality of life for advanced liver and biliary duct cancer patients
