2022 Accomplishments Report

Featured Grants

OSUCCC – James researchers in 2022 received 23 grants from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and several grants from other federal sources to conduct research aimed at preventing cancer or improving cancer care.

Electra PaskettResearchers awarded NCI grant to help boost clinical trial accrual of underrepresented populations

Scientists at the OSUCCC – James received a five-year, $3.5 million NCI grant to support Ohio State’s “Connecting Underrepresented Populations to Clinical Trials” project. Principal investigators (PIs) are Electra Paskett, PhD, MSPH, and Cheryl Lee, MD.

Scientists land NCI grant to develop therapy for rare large B-cell lymphoma

The NCI awarded a five-year, $2.9 million grant to help researchers at the OSUCCC – James study a rare form of large B-cell lymphoma and develop a targeted therapy for patients with this currently incurable cancer. Lapo Alinari, MD, PhD, is the PI for this study.

Ohio State receives funding to study novel biodosimetry solutions for evaluation of radiation exposure

OSUCCC – James researchers entered a $9.42 million federal cooperative agreement that will help them further develop Ohio State’s biodosimetry technology to discover noninvasive biomarkers for radiation exposure. Being able to determine the amount and range of exposure would help clinicians more quickly and accurately mitigate short- and long-term effects. The PI is Naduparambil Jacob, PhD.

Federal grants boost efforts for earlier detection of endometrial and ovarian cancer

The U.S. Department of Defense awarded a pair of grants totaling $2.65 million to help OSUCCC – James researchers identify cellular biomarkers that could lead to earlier detection of endometrial (uterine) and ovarian cancer. Selvendiran Karuppaiyah, PhD, is the PI for both.
