Welcome
An inspired person can make a difference. Combining the efforts of many inspired people can move mountains. I see it every day at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
With the staggering statistic that one in three Americans will develop cancer in their lifetime, combining the efforts of individuals to change that statistic is the key to creating a cancer-free world. This issue of impactCancer includes a few of these inspirational efforts:
- Bertha Bouroncle, MD, has created an endowed Chair at Ohio State in her name to further inspire cancer research excellence.
- At the young age of 10, Olivia Barr founded an organization supporting cancer research after her mother passed away of cancer at 33.
- Peter and Susie Horvath continually give of their time to advocate for cancer care and research in our community and beyond.
- After cancer claimed the life of beloved family man Herbert J. Block, his family turned a golf gathering for friends into an annual event that has raised more than $4.5 million for the OSUCCC – James.
Whether it is through gifts, fundraising events, time or advocacy, the combined efforts of people who support us make a significant difference, and for that we are truly grateful.
