Welcome
Midway through construction of the original James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, Dr. Arthur G. James, the hospital’s namesake, reflected on what an impressive picture the new building made whenever he saw it at sunrise during patient rounds. “It is obvious that a new day is coming,” he wrote.
I understand how he felt. During the rise of our new 21-floor, 1.1-million-square-foot cancer hospital, which will officially open Dec. 15, I have often stood in awe of this tremendously impressive structure and, more importantly, its promise for helping us advance research-based cancer care that will bolster our ceaseless pursuit of a cancer-free world.
Our new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is a triumph not only for all of us who will work, volunteer and be treated here, but for everyone in our community whose generous philanthropic support has made it possible. Every cancer discovery, treatment, cure and prevention strategy that will originate here can be attributed in part to the many donors who helped finance this building.
As you read this edition of impactCancer, with its inspiring collection of new-James tributes and previews, I hope you’ll share my pride in the dawning of another new day – a day that you helped bring about.
