impactCancer Fall 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed much about the way we function in our daily lives, but our strong foundations at the OSUCCC – James have positioned us to continue our relentless pursuit of a cancer-free world.

impactCancer Fall 2020

Inside, we share stories of how philanthropy is helping us find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, including a story about a couple who have left a legacy gift for ovarian cancer research. We also feature one corporation’s $1 million commitment.

In recent months, we’ve witnessed the power of joining together, from providing meals for our frontline health care workers, to taking a stand against racism, to raising funds for cancer research through My Pelotonia 2020.

This year, we also celebrated 30 years of The James and the one-year anniversary of the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO). While 2020 has brought its challenges, we feel confident about the future. From simple gestures of compassion to groundbreaking discoveries, our work at the OSUCCC – James is remarkable.

Thank you for being a part of it.

The James Celebrates 30 Years of Exemplary Cancer Care

On July 9, 2020, the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute passed another milestone — it was on that date three decades ago that Arthur G. James, MD, escorted the first patient into the original James and opened a new era of research-based and compassionate cancer care for the residents of central Ohio and beyond.

Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology, One Year Later

In July 2019, Pelotonia pledged $102,065,000 to the OSUCCC – James, with $65 million of that investment made in support of immuno-oncology research efforts that led to the formation of the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) — a comprehensive bench-to-bedside research initiative focused on harnessing the immune system to fight cancer.

Community Partners

Community Partners are passionate individuals, groups and corporations who share our vision of creating a cancer-free world. Hundreds of Community Partners are raising critical funds to further research, education and patient care at the OSUCCC – James. This past year, more than $3.4 million has been raised through corporate initiatives, promotions and local events.

#MacOutCancer

Chefs Stephanie Urrutia, RD, LD, and Katie McCurdy, BHS, of the James Mobile Education Kitchen Team shared healthy fall flavors to support adolescent and young adult cancer research as part of the #MacOutCancerChallenge.
