Spreading Hope During the Holidays

A wonderful and meaningful component of the Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund is its “Hope for the Holidays” program. Preparing for the holidays is stressful on its own, but that stress can be magnified when dealing with a cancer diagnosis and struggling to make ends meet financially. Stefanie was bound and determined to alleviate that stress for patients at The James, so she started Hope for the Holidays, an extra way the Patient Assistance Fund can support those families with need during the holiday season. This past Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah, the Fund assisted 24 families by filling their wish lists and providing holiday meals. In 2008, Stefanie personally delivered the very first Hope for the Holidays bounty and her tradition continues today.

“I am writing to thank you and the staff at The James. I have been coming here for awhile now and the staff at The James has been so nice and helpful to me. I am 45 years old and nobody has done something like this for me. So I want to thank you and the staff for what you have done. I am going to have a great Thanksgiving and I hope everybody does the same.”

“Everyone who helped—thank you for the food and presents. If it wasn’t for all who helped we wouldn’t have had a Christmas. We can’t thank you enough and may God bless you all."

“Friends, thank you for the gifts that you sent. We were more than blessed this Christmas! What you did for us was beyond our imagination and we are grateful for your hearts! God bless you.”
