Legacy 2013

What motivates you? Is it your own disease? Is it a friend? Is it a loved one? Stef asked us these questions for a reason. Until we find out what motivates us, we won’t be able to achieve our mission: a cancer-free world.

Legacy 2013

I can tell you that my family, friends and community motivate me. You all motivate me to continue this fight against cancer and continue to live out Stef’s mission to find a cure.

The Spielman Fund has reached over $13 MILLION! This is an incredible number we have achieved and it is thanks to all of you. But what is even more impressive than the amount of money raised is how the money is being used — 100 percent of your gift goes directly to support the Fund’s efforts. The Spielman Fund is devoted to advancing research in breast cancer and finding a cure we can pass along to our children. Currently, the Fund is focused on supporting the following areas:

• Development of new breast cancer drugs

  • Tissue banks — human breast cancer tissue samples used to make discoveries and new drug targets
  • Recruitment of the best and brightest physicians and researchers through Professorships and Fellowships
  • Support for research studies

Please take a moment to read the articles below to learn more about the research being conducted. In addition, we are making an impact on patient care. The Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund assists breast cancer patients and their families who are struggling to afford the costs associated with treatment. The fund has provided essential equipment and services including: circulation pumps for lymphedema, compression garments, wigs, nutrition supplements, gas cards, restaurant gift cards and assistance with transportation.

To continue these efforts and to continue the growth of the Spielman Funds, we all have to be on board. Figure out what motivates you and you will be successful. I made a promise to continue what Stef started, and over the years I have learned that I cannot do it alone. It is within this community of survivors, doctors, nurses, friends and family that we will find a cure. If we continue to give money, support, hope and love, it will continue to grow. I’ve been given a mission, I’ve been given a passion, and that is why I am here.

Thanks to The James and to all of you — I believe a cure will be found.

God Bless,
Chris
