A decade later, the fight is still going strong through the devotion of all who have contributed to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research or who have used some of the more than $22 million it has raised to conduct groundbreaking studies that have improved patient care.
This issue of Legacy contains a reflection by our daughter Maddie on Stef and the good work she has inspired both in the community and at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James), along with stories about offshoots of that work.
One is the Stefanie Spielman Breast Cancer Cohort and Tissue Bank, which, as the Spielman Fund’s first, visionary research-related investment, has led to an extensive collection of blood and tissue samples from thousands of patients with breast cancer — samples that are invaluable to cancer research.
Another is Stef’s Celebrate Life Tailgate, an annual event held from 2011-19 by our family and friends to continue her tradition by raising money for the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center at the OSUCCC – James.
Stef’s legacy has made a difference to so many people. As her legacy expands, I thank everyone for your generous support of breast cancer research at the OSUCCC – James and for your commitment to our shared vision of creating a cancer-free world.
Continue to Fight,
Chris Spielman
