Pink Smiles Campaign

Hutta & Hutta Orthodontics, Hutta & Cook Orthodontics and James T. Hutta Orthodontics partnered during October for the d annual Pink Smiles Campaign to raise money for the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the OSUCCC – James.

For the entire month, the three practices donated $5 to the Spielman Fund for every patient who requested pink bands on his or her braces. Staff also participated by giving monetary donations, wearing pink uniforms and breast cancer T-shirts, and decorating offices.

In 2015, the James T. Hutta Orthodontics office started the campaign to raise awareness and money for the Spielman Fund. The event made such an impact that Dr. Hutta’s brother and fellow orthodontist, J. Lawrence Hutta, DDS, adopted the Pink Smiles campaign in his offices as well.

Through the Pink Smiles Campaign, Hutta & Hutta Orthodontics, Hutta & Cook Orthodontics and James T. Hutta Orthodontics have found a way to raise funds while encouraging patients to support the cause. In 2019,the campaign raised  $2,500 to benefit the Spielman Fund.

Spike for a Cure

On Oct. 2, 2018, Upper Arlington High School (UAHS) varsity volleyball player Kiersten Grimm organized a “Continue to Spike – Continue to Fight” volleyball game to raise awareness for the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. She planned and coordinated the event as part of her senior capstone project.

The volleyball team hosted the event during a home game. Corporate sponsors helped the team purchase pink T-shirts that were sold to UAHS students with a mission to “Pink Out” the game. The team also wore pink jerseys to promote the cause.

The crowd honored the cancer survivors in attendance. All survivors received a pink flower to signify their fight. “Your journey and courage are not forgotten,” says Kiersten. “We want to continue to spike out breast cancer.”

The UAHS Girls Volleyball team raised $3,000 and presented a check to Macy and Audrey Spielman, who accepted it on behalf of the Spielman Fund. Macy, a classmate of Kiersten’s, thanked the volleyball team and the entire school for their contributions and community support.
