Legacy 2020-21

2020 was a year none of us will likely soon forget. Throughout the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hardships and the changes, we remained focused on a promise we made to Stefanie to “continue to fight, continue to live” — thanks to your incredible generosity.

Legacy 2020-21

    I have been blown away by your resiliency and determination to make a difference.

    When Stef and I created the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, we established what we believed to be an ambitious goal of raising $250,000. I am humbled to announce the Spielman Fund has officially surpassed $25.5 million!

    This incredible milestone is a tribute to Stef and proof that her legacy lives on. Eleven years after her passing, she is still changing lives. I often wonder what she would say in moments like this. Certainly, our family feels an overwhelming sense of peace knowing she is still with us.

    As time progresses, so has breast cancer research and technology. This issue of Legacy will look back on the Spielman Fund’s 25 greatest accomplishments in recognition of this monumental announcement. We are so excited to reflect and highlight the advancements your dollars have helped make possible.

    Our work does not stop at this milestone. There is more work to do to find a cure and to create a cancer-free world. I want to thank every one of you who has contributed to this cause. Stefanie lives on in each of you, and I believe she would be so proud of how far we have come.

    The Champion Award

    Stefanie Spielman established the Champion Award to recognize one of the most critical factors in surviving cancer: loving, unwavering support. In Stefanie’s case, such support during her battle with breast cancer came from her husband, Chris. To show her gratitude, Stefanie gave Chris the very first Champion Award in 2000.

    During the 2020-2021 fiscal year, our Community and Corporate Partners raised more than $365,000 for the Spielman Fund. Through dinners, golf outings, online auctions and many creative virtual endeavors, our partners are vital to the success of the Spielman Fund and are helping further our research and patient care.
