Legacy 2022-23

For 25 years, the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research has raised money in support of cancer research and patient care at the OSUCCC – James. The Spielman family never expected Stefanie’s cancer diagnosis, but their experience has impacted many lives and left a legacy of hope that has made a difference.

    This issue of Legacy Magazine looks back on the tremendous impact the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research has made in supporting leading-edge breast cancer research and compassionate, world-class patient care over the past 25 years.

    A Spielman Note

    No one plans for cancer. They plan graduations, weddings and vacations. My parents did not plan to start a fund for breast cancer research, and I hope someday we do not need it. But until that day comes, nothing can stop us from carrying on my mom’s legacy.

    25 Years Later

    After learning about her diagnosis, Stefanie and Chris developed a plan they thought would help them win this battle and quickly realized that her diagnosis provided a forum for reaching thousands of patients who also needed support. The Spielman Fund honor's Stefanie's legacy by fueling advances in breast cancer research and patient care.

    Dr. Roman Skoracki Looks Back and Ahead

    Through the generosity of donors, the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center has access to the latest technology for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and supports initiatives that improve the quality of life associated with breast cancer treatment at every level, including long-term survivorship.

    Onward and Upward

    To celebrate 25 years of the Spielman Fund, the Spielman family will contribute $25,000 to match gifts made to the fund during our breast cancer fundraising campaign. Together, we can raise more than $50,000 to fuel groundbreaking scientific exploration into the causes, treatment and prevention of breast cancer.

    Thank You Community Partners

    Our Community and Corporate Partners raised more than $195,000 for the Spielman Fund during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Through dinners, golf outings, online auctions and many more creative endeavors, our partners are vital to the success of the Spielman Fund and are helping further our research and improve patient care.
