James experts are working to create a remarkable treatment from the common cold. Researchers are conducting a study aimed at changing cold viruses in ways that target tumors. According to the OSUCCC – James' neuro-oncology director, Dr. Vinay Puduvalli, The goal of the research is to use molecular biology tools to change the viruses' tendencies to attack normal cells — typically resulting in colds — to destroy tumor cells. If successful the manipulated viruses could zero in on tumors without damaging patients' normal cells.
