Cancer treatment Ohio State researchers made major strides during the year, with advancements in the treatment of immunotherapy, lung cancer care and much more: - A new cell-based immunotherapy offers hope for patients with metastatic lung cancer. - Genetic research that could improve immunotherapy for endometrial cancer. - A study points to possible new therapy for advanced kidney cancer. - Scientists found a possible new therapy for some patients with non-small cell lung cancer. - Researchers identified a potential biological target for treating pancreatic cancer. Technological innovation From artificial intelligence to robotic surgery, Ohio State experts utilized the latest tech to improve cancer care in 2024: - New AI helps doctors identify precancerous pancreatic cysts. - Ohio State experts were among the first in the U.S. to perform surgery using a next generation robotic system.  - A custom smartwatch could detect early signs of painful condition that impacts 90 million cancer survivors. Increasing cancer knowledge Research leads to new treatments, but it also expands our understanding of cancer to pave the way for groundbreaking therapies: - New research suggests vaping and smoking together increases lung cancer risk fourfold.  - A new study shows that at home screening test reduces risk of colorectal cancer death. - A survey indicates that adults under 50 don’t understand risks or signs of pancreatic cancer. - Radon, a colorless, odorless gas, is likely linked to a rise in non-smoking lung cancer. Partners in cancer care and research OSUCCC – James leaders formed and expanded partnerships with fellow oncology leaders in 2024, setting the stage for unprecedented achievements in the years to come: - Siemens Healthineers and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center form a 10-year, $105 million value partnership. - Ohio State will partner with Zangmeister Cancer Center to expand access to cancer care. - An Ohio State drug discovery entered clinical testing and secured a commercialization partner. - LifeCare Alliance and Ohio State partner to advance cancer health equity.
