Acupuncture and aromatherapy are among the integrated treatments improving quality of life for patients at The James. By integrating complimentary therapies like massage and aromatherapy into patients’ treatment plans, experts like N. Anton Borja, DO, are able to reduce some of the debilitating side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Borja, the medical director of integrative oncology for The James, says the treatments are having a big impact on the lives of patients and that the success is contributing into wider adoption of the therapies. “Studies show that 50 to 80 percent of cancer patients are incorporating integrative treatments and therapies into their overall health plan,” he says.
