The James Oncologic Physical Therapy (PT) Residency recently became the first oncology PT residency in Ohio — and only the sixth in the United States — to gain accreditation by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE). The goal of The James Oncologic Physical Therapy Residency is to provide an extensive training for the successful treatment of patients with cancer. Karen Hock, PT, MS, CT-LANA, associate director of ambulatory oncology rehabilitation at The James, says the residency is a collaboration between The James and the Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program in the Ohio State College of Medicine’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program is led by director Cari Utendorf, PT, DPT, MBA, CLT-LANA. Oncology residency faculty include Brittany Knauss, PT, DPT, MBA, CLT-LANA, Julie Leffler, PT, CLT-LANA, Rachel LaPorte, PT, DPT, and Lindsay Riggs, PT, DPT. LaPorte and Riggs are both board-certified clinical specialists in oncologic physical therapy. Kayla Gault, PT, DPT, is the first graduate of the program.
