Laura Schoettmer went from a James volunteer to a patient when she was diagnosed with lymphoma. Now, she's sharing her knowledge to help current patients through their cancer journeys. Schoettmer was already volunteering at The James when she underwent a thyroid biopsy that resulted in a surprising diagnosis. \"The office called. He said, 'The thyroid is great, but you have lymphoma.' That was the furthest thing from my mind,\" Schoettmer says. When the shock of her diagnosis wore off, Schoettmer drew upon her volunteer experience during her treatment at The James. \"You can't do it by yourself — let people help you,\" she says.
