James experts are testing an app that could help improve breast cancer treatment by turning patients into “citizen researchers.” The smartphone app will record patients’ conversations with their care providers, enabling more informed discussions of treatment options with family and other treatment team members. The goal of app’s development team is to create real-time support groups for breast cancer patients as they navigate care and treatment through safe, secure and confidential technology. The results can provide valuable insights into the kinds of questions — and comfort level asking those questions — posed by patients, creating a fuller scope of understanding for all involved in the decision-making process of breast cancer treatment.
