Can thyroid cancer actually be predicted in family members based on specific genetic factors? A new study at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, led by endocrinology expert Matthew Ringel, MD, aims to find out why thyroid cancer patients are more likely to have other family members with the disease as well. By identifying genes that cause thyroid cancer, the experts hope to predict who in the family is more likely to develop the disease, diagnose it at an earlier age, and cure it more easily.  Families with three or members who have thyroid cancer are eligible for this new study, and they can find out more by calling the James Line at 800-293-5066.
