David E. Cohn, MD, MBA, chief medical officer at Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, will become editor-in-chief of the journal Gynecologic Oncology in January 2022 after serving as a deputy editor since 2011. The official publication of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), Gynecologic Oncology is an international journal devoted to the publication of clinical and investigative articles that concern tumors of the female reproductive tract. Cohn is a professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Ohio State, where he holds the Stuart M. Sloan and Larry J. Copeland Chair in Gynecologic Oncology. He is also on the board of directors for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and serves as the SGO’s immediate past president following his term as president in 2020-21. As a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cohn focuses his research on the genetics of endometrial cancer, signaling biology of ovarian cancer and value-based cancer care delivery. He has published over 275 manuscripts in scientific journals and 20 book chapters. He holds two patents — one for the early detection of ovarian cancer and the other for a novel vaccination strategy for treating this disease. Cohn maintains a practice that includes both a medical and surgical treatment of gynecologic cancers. He has been widely recognized by his peers for excellence in clinical practice and by those whom he educates for his excellence in teaching. He earned his MD at Georgetown University School of Medicine, served his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington in Seattle and completed his fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis. He received his MBA from the Max M. Fisher College of Business at Ohio State and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
