New therapies are bringing big benefits to skin cancer patients at Ohio State. Though utilized for a relatively short period of time, intralesional therapies are already improving outcomes in cases of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. Intralesional therapies differ from previous treatments by delivering medication directly into one or more tumor sites found on the skin, in the lymph nodes or within other organs. At the OSUCCC – James, doctors like Carlo Contreras, MD, treat are using the innovative therapies as part of personalized treatment plans, including those designed for advanced disease. “We use some of these therapies day in and day out for selected patients with advanced forms of melanoma and other skin cancers,” Contreras says. “The James at Ohio State has a full array of these intralesional therapies.”
