The Women in Surgery Symposium is a one-day academic event dedicated to addressing issues faced by women who have chosen, or who are considering, a career in surgery. This year’s theme is focused on redefining surgical culture by understanding the lived experience of women in surgery vis-à-vis workplace inequalities, bullying and microaggressions.

Through lectures, panel discussions and breakout sessions, the symposium will offer participants the opportunity to hear from, and discuss with, a diverse group of female and male surgeons, including chairs of departments, leaders in research, national society presidents and residents in training. We hope that by the end of the day, participants will have a better understanding of the gender-related hurdles faced by women in surgery and are made aware of strategies to mitigate these obstacles.
