  • About Me

As a geriatrician and palliative care specialist, I focus on helping older patients adjust to aging-related needs and cancer symptoms. My clinical work, quality improvement projects and teaching are directed towards improving the delivery of care to patients who require a delicate balance of medical intervention and goal-aligned care. Older adults have unique needs, especially when it comes to cancer management and care. My role is to listen carefully to each person's needs, worries and goals to ensure that we provide an individualized care plan that best meets where they are mentally and emotionally on their cancer journey. At The James, we also have multidisciplinary treatment teams to provide comprehensive care in a way that maximizes a patient's appointments and visits. In addition to my clinical work, I am a member of the Cancer Control Program at the OSUCCC – James, where I have developed a geriatric palliative care oncology clinic called the CARE-Pall Clinic. This clinic allows me to contribute to ongoing research in the field and help others best understand how to treat and meet the geriatric and palliative care of older adults undergoing active cancer treatment. I am interested in establishing qualify of life metrics, better understanding the decreased enrollment in clinical trials and considering the role that cognitive impairment has on decision-making, adherence and overall outcomes. One of my current projects, which is funded by a CARinG pilot grant, studies the relationship and outcomes of older adult allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant recipients who have had a geriatric assessment with management. My work has also appeared in several peer-reviewed publications, including Journal of Palliative Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology and Trials. I truly enjoy working with the experts in cancer management and research at The James. We have the resources and expertise to adjust our practice and implement new models of care to better meet our patients’ needs. It is a privilege to be a part of an innovative, caring team that works hard for our patients and their families to ensure that everyone has access to the best possible care.

    Patient Satisfaction Review

The overall patient satisfaction rating is an average of all patient responses to the five questions gathered from the Outpatient Oncology survey, developed by Press Ganey Associates for use in oncology clinics across the country. On behalf of The James, Press Ganey administers the survey to patients who see our providers in an outpatient clinic office. Dr. Stevens always listens and works through everything I am facing.

    Reviewed on July 16, 2024

Dr. Stevens and her staff - including the pharmacist who attends my appointments - are incredibly kind and supportive. They are good listeners, and are more than willing to research and explore any and all possible treatment options. They researched a new neuropathy treatment option in Cleveland at my request; when that was not available, they arranged for similar care at OSU PT. The medical, pharmacy, OT and PT staff work together and are respectful of each other and the patient. I feel cared for by a first-class team medical team and support staff.

Dr. Stevens has a pharmacist attend my appointments with her. I like knowing I can talk to the pharmacist about my meds and concerns.

Outstanding. Difficult to put into verbiage how my life was saved from a rare and serious disease. How my life has been made livable by the care of your Palliative Treatment under Dr. Stevens.
