  • About Me

As a cardio-oncologist, I specialize in caring for cancer patients who are also experiencing heart issues. My role spans all aspects of cancer care – from helping patients optimize their heart health prior to beginning cancer treatment, to managing acute therapy-related cardiotoxicity, and prevention of late-onset cardiovascular disease in cancer survivors. I regularly treat conditions including cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, arrhythmias, valvular disease, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. I also perform non-invasive diagnostic procedures including stress tests and echocardiograms. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a top tier institution where clinicians and scientists collaborate on the forefront of medicine and science to bring the best quality care for our patients. As one of the few fellowship-trained cardio-oncologists in the country, as well as a physician-scientist focused on cardio-oncology research, I am excited to use my unique skill set and experience to contribute to these efforts. My research goals include developing optimal approaches for treating cancer patients with cardiovascular toxicities secondary to their cancer therapy. I aim to better understand why these conditions develop by evaluating clinical outcomes and conducting clinical trials. My interests also include evaluating the molecular, cellular, and genetic mechanisms underlying various forms of cancer treatment-related cardiotoxicities. I have authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and have presented my research at national meetings. My research has contributed to advancing the field of breast cancer, cardiovascular medicine, and the intersection of cancer and cardiovascular disease. I was honored to receive the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Award (NRSA) and grant funding from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Predoctoral Fellowship. I am a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. My role includes helping train future physicians. I teach medical students, residents, and fellows in the inpatient setting and serve as a research mentor for those interested in cardio-oncology research. In addition, I participated in the New Faculty Academy and the FAME Unites Emerging Leaders (FUEL) programs at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, sports and outdoor activities, music, and traveling.

  • Consulting and Related Relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Potter has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
