I’m a medical oncologist with a special focus in treating patients suffering from acute and chronic myeloid diseases, focusing particularly on acute myeloid leukemia (AML). I was rated in the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction in 2017.
I received my medical degree and my Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR) from the Medical University of South Carolina. I completed a combined fellowship in medical oncology/translational research here at The Ohio State University. I also serve as an assistant professor of hematology at Ohio State.
My research interests include studying the effectiveness of novel therapeutics on patients with AML and other myeloid neoplasms, part of my continuing search for answers and a potential cure. My current research focus is assessing new targeted therapeutics in older patients with the hope to move away from chemotherapy and towards more individualized targeted treatment.
During my fellowship, I received the Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award, the American Society of Hematology Clinical Research Training Institute Award, and a T32 Research Training Grant from the Nation Institutes of Health. Since I’ve been on faculty, I have received the American Society of Hematology Clinical Scholar Award and the Alliance Foundation Clinical Scholar Award both for research support. I’ve been published in medical journals including Molecular Pharmacology, Leukemia and Blood.
I feel privileged to be part of The Ohio State University medical community, and I’m especially proud to contribute to the work we do here at the OSUCCC – James. We all share a common goal: to provide cutting-edge research that will lead to a cancer-free world, and the delivery of superior, individualized care to each and every one of our patients.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 12/20/2018, Dr. Mims has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
