I specialize in treating people with multiple myeloma, AL amyloidosis and other blood cancers. I’m passionate about providing world-class care for the patients I see every day, and for the opportunity to find a cure at the OSUCCC – James. Our approach is very patient-centered, and we learn something new from everyone we see. The treatment we provide integrates compassionate care with the latest therapies and novel clinical trials. In 2014, 2016 and 2017, I was rated in the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction.
Much of our research explores ways to reprogram a patient’s immune cells to attack a specific relapsed blood cancer, such as multiple myeloma. The idea is to “super-charge” the patient’s immune system so that it responds to the cancer by attacking it – all while offering the patient a drug-free treatment alternative.
In 2012 I became a member of the cancer institutional review board (IRB), in charge of ensuring patient safety for research at the OSUCCC – James. In 2013 I became a member of the steering committee of the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC), the clinical trial offshoot of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF). This gives Ohio State representation and access to early phase multiple myeloma clinical trials with national representation. Additionally I serve as an associate professor of internal medicine for The Ohio State University.
The James is a wonderful environment to pursue cutting-edge treatment. The blood cancer group is comprised of about 50 leading physicians and scientists who’ve dedicated their careers to treatment and research. It’s a thrill to work with such dedicated colleagues in our common goal to end cancer once and for all.
