I am a dermatologist with my primary focus being cutaneous oncology.
As a Mohs micrographic surgeon, I specialize in the surgical removal of multiple types of skin cancer as well as post-surgical reconstruction. Since many skin cancers occur on cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face, I am very proud of the aesthetic outcomes we can achieve after surgery.
My other clinical area of interest is in transplant dermatology. Patients who have received a transplant are on immunosuppressive medications, and these medicines can dramatically increase the risk for skin cancers. In our transplant dermatology clinics, we strive to take excellent care of the patient population, utilizing the newest and best techniques for overall skin care.
I’m an assistant professor in the Division of Dermatology, where I serve as the residency program’s assistant director as well as the director of the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship. My research focuses primarily on post-operative scar formation and the evaluation tools of post-operative scars.
I am privileged to be able to help patients through their diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, providing each patient with an individualized care program that is tailored to their specific needs and utilizes a team approach. The team atmosphere at the OSUCCC – James is wonderful. For more complicated cases, we have a tumor board that joins multiple specialties across the medical system, allowing us to give patients the best possible care.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 12/20/2018, Dr. Carr has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
