I’m a medical oncologist specializing in genitourinary cancers, melanomas and lung cancers. I received my medical training from the University of Ife in Nigeria, and I completed a fellowship in hematology, oncology and geriatrics at Boston University. I also serve as a member in the American Medical Association, the International Society for the Study of Lung Cancer and other medical societies.

My research focuses primarily on smoking cessation in the context of preventing lung cancer. In addition, I focus on screening, health care efficiency, cancer and aging, and personalized medicine. I’ve participated in numerous clinical trials, including one that focused on creating a brief, novel smoking cessation intervention. My research has been published in a number of journals, including the African Journal of Health Sciences.

At The James, we work to both treat patients’ diseases and prevent cancer through cutting-edge research and collaboration between skilled and diverse medical professionals. We provide individualized treatment plans to give our patients the best possible outcomes, because everyone’s individual cancer is different. I try to focus on how my patients are coping with their disease to ensure they have the support they need during this difficult time. The OSUCCC – James gives me the resources to pursue this goal of a cancer-free world.

Consulting and Related Relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 12/20/2018, Dr. Folefac has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
