About Me

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we provide a multidisciplinary approach to treating patients with complex medical issues. As a colorectal surgeon, I work closely with our gastroenterologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists to care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. I also manage patients who need surgery for pelvic floor disorders and anorectal problems such as hemorrhoids, fistula and fissures.

Many of my patients are navigating complex problems and major decisions, and the most fulfilling thing about my career is being there for them throughout this process. I make sure that my patients fully understand their disease and treatment options because that’s the best way for us to make decisions as a team. Sometimes that team includes loved ones and other physicians, so I take time to include and communicate with everyone. I truly believe that aligning treatment options with the patient’s goals results in the best care.

I have always been inspired by the joy of lifelong learning and was fortunate to have mentors throughout my career who helped develop my interests through research and modeling patient-inclusive care. I am an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Teaching residents and students provides daily motivation for me, and I enjoy the opportunity to pass on the art of our practice. I am also an assistant program director of the General Surgery Residency Program and assistant director for educational curricula for the Ohio State Robotic Surgery Program.

I have research interests in surgical education and safe surgical teaching, patient decision making, and inflammatory bowel disease, and have been published in several peer-reviewed journals including the American Journal of Surgery, Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Journal of Surgical Education. I have also had the opportunity to present my research at national meetings including the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, where I serve on the Young Researchers Committee. I’m fortunate to have had my research supported by grant funding from AAMC-GEA and institutional grant funding.

I love working at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center because everyone works together as a team to surround our patients with the best care possible. It’s already rewarding to come to work each day to try to make someone’s world a little better, and doing that with some amazing teammates makes it even more special.

In my free time, I love working in the pottery studio at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, taking my dog for hikes and runs around town, and whipping up meals for my family.
