I am an Assistant Professor of Surgical Oncology at The James with a clinical practice focused on the surgical treatment of melanoma, soft tissue sarcoma and retroperitoneal sarcoma. I am passionate about offering world class care to my patients. Through research collaborations and clinical trials available at The James, I hope to improve our understanding and treatment options for these various cancers. I was rated in the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The conditions I typically see in patients range from the common to the very rare and complex. I work as part of a multidisciplinary team with other cancer specialists to ensure each patient receives the highest possible care and personalized treatment.
I have authored or coauthored 17 medical journal articles on melanoma, sarcoma, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancers, and breast cancer. I have also given eight presentations to the medical-academic community at both regional and national meetings and contributed chapters to four textbooks.
As a physician I have the desire and mission to treat every patient with the utmost care and respect they deserve and to contribute to the ongoing discoveries that are helping to create a cancer-free world.
I currently serve on the OSU Biomedical Science Institutional Review Board, the Ohio State Health System Perioperative Quality Management Committee, the James Clinical Quality & Patient Safety Committee and the OSU Wexner Medical Center Professionalism Consultation Committee.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 3/26/2018, Dr. Howard has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
