I am a physician assistant in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the OSUCCC – James, where I specialize in treating breast cancer patients. This consists of evaluating an appropriate plan of care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and implementing these interventions for each patient as needed during their radiation therapy treatments. I also evaluate, monitor and treat chronic medical problems during routine follow-ups associated with their breast cancer care. I enjoy the continuity of care and the relationship that I have with each of my patients. Working in oncology comes with both rewards and challenges, but it is such an emotionally fulfilling specialty to be in. I am able to help patients navigate some of the toughest times in their life, and it really makes me feel like I am making a difference for them. I believe that patients and families should be active participants in their health care, especially when it comes to their cancer care. I strive to keep open communication between myself, my colleagues and my patients. It’s also important that patients get well-rounded care when it comes to their cancer treatment, and this is something that The James and the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center excels at. We work as a multidisciplinary team to treat each patient’s medical, social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Our teams are experts in their respective fields and are up-to-date on the most recent research in breast cancer care, which allows us to give the best possible treatment to each patient. The team of physicians, fellow APPs, nurses, radiation therapists and other medical staff is fantastic. Everyone is passionate about their jobs, and it really shows in the care that they provide to patients. This, coupled with the ground-breaking research that is conducted here, makes working at the OSUCCC – James a very rewarding job.
