More info forI am a medical oncologist focusing on skin cancers and a professor of internal medicine. I also serve as chair of the Melanoma Disease Specific Committee. I’m the attending physician for in-patient and outpatient solid tumor services at the OSUCCC – James. I was rated in the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation in 2016 and 2017 for patient satisfaction. My clinical and research focus is treating patients with melanoma, the deadliest of all skin cancers, and other related skin cancers. Everyone’s cancer is unique so our approach is to look at the individual patient and the mutations within their tumors. We then decide which is the best therapy for the optimal long-term benefit. We’ve made tremendous strides in treating the disease. Tumors can become resistant to the drugs we have so there are studies on how to prevent the development of this resistance. And we have studies on how to overcome the resistance in a patient who has already had taken the drug successfully but now has become resistant. Patients with Stage 4-melanoma typically had a six- to nine-month survival rate after diagnosis. Now with new drugs and trials, we’ve extended that. I feel privileged to be part of entire The Ohio State University medical community, and I’m especially proud to contribute to the overall mission of The James: to provide cutting-edge research and superior personalized care to each and every one of our patients.
