I’m an oncologist specializing in the management of gynecologic malignancies, which can include surgery, chemotherapy, surveillance and survivorship care. In addition to minimally invasive surgery, I perform radical tumor reduction surgery and enroll patients in clinical trials when appropriate. I received my medical training from the University of California in San Francisco and I completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
My research has been published in numerous journals, including Gynecologic Oncology, JAMA Oncology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. In addition, I serve as a member in the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and as an assistant professor at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The resources at the OSUCCC – James help create multidisciplinary treatments through access to cutting-edge technology and innovative clinical trials and research. The James also allows experienced medical professionals to work together to create individualized treatment plans that give patients the best possible outcomes. My goal is to provide high-quality, evidence-based care that is tailored to meet each patient’s specific needs, and The James is an ideal place to do so.
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 12/20/2018, Dr. Bixel has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
The overall patient satisfaction rating is an average of all patient responses to the five questions gathered from the Outpatient Oncology survey, developed by Press Ganey Associates for use in oncology clinics across the country. On behalf of The James, Press Ganey administers the survey to patients who see our providers in an outpatient clinic office. Dr. Bixel has always worked with me in the past. This visit I had her nurse practitioner - excellent care still.
Overall my experience was good. This is/was my first journey into an oncologist office. It's hard for it to be easy. However, for the most part, I felt well informed on my treatment plan and the staff was friendly and caring. One note - I'm happy to participate in research, but have the research people meet early in the appointment. I was overwhelmed by all I had heard from the physician and my directions for day of surgery. I would have signed anything from the research people to just get out of there at the end of this appointment. I was feeling to emotional to process!
Dr. Bixel is the right doctor for me. I liked and trusted her from the moment she walked into the room.
Very friendly and knowledgeable. Answered all my questions.
