I’m a medical oncologist specializing in cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. I received my master’s degree in human nutrition from Columbia University in New York and I completed my medical training at the University of Toledo. I also completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. I serve as an assistant professor in Internal Medicine and as a faculty member in the Personalized Food and Nutritional Metabolomics for Health Discovery Theme at The Ohio State University.
Questions regarding the importance of nutrition and its relationship with cancer are commonly encountered in the oncology clinic. With a master’s in human nutrition, I have always taken a special interest in understanding the impact of nutritional status as a modifiable risk factor in various cancers. I am conducting novel research studying the relationships between specific cancers and dietary factors. I am also utilizing metabolomic technologies to identify novel biomarkers that will predict response to various dietary and lifestyle interventions. These nutrition-related markers may also have prognostic and/or predictive ability with respect to other clinically relevant outcomes such as treatment effectiveness and therapy related side effects. I’ve presented my work at numerous national meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Annual Meeting and Gastrointestinal Cancer Symposium.
The OSUCCC – James provides world-class technology and resources to its medical staff, which allows us to learn from our peers and continue improving the care we provide. Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 3/26/2018, Dr. Jain has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
