I’m a hematologist with a focus on non-malignant blood disorders. My specific areas of expertise include platelet abnormalities, blood clotting and bleeding disorders. In addition to treating patients, I serve as professor in the Division of Hematology. In 2014 and 2017, I was rated in the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction. I was also named to the Castle Connolly list of “Regional Top Doctors” from 2006-2019.
Research is a big part of my career. I established the thrombotic microangiopathy research program, which studies rare blood diseases including thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS). I’m also involved in the design and execution of several international clinical trials.
I enjoy working alongside world-class medical experts at The James to improve patient care. The collaborative environment among physicians and staff at The OSUCCC – James is what truly sets it apart from other cancer centers.
My work has received widespread recognition. I’ve been published in national and international medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, and, the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the university requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their university responsibilities. As of 12/20/2018, Dr. Cataland has reported relationships with the companies or entities listed below. If you have questions about the relationships listed below, please ask the faculty member. If you have questions about how these relationships are monitored by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, please contact our Compliance Office.
The overall patient satisfaction rating is an average of all patient responses to the five questions gathered from the Outpatient Oncology survey, developed by Press Ganey Associates for use in oncology clinics across the country. On behalf of The James, Press Ganey administers the survey to patients who see our providers in an outpatient clinic office.
