Ioana Baiu, MD
Academic Title: Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine
About Me
More info forI am a general thoracic surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive robotic techniques to give my patients the best outcomes possible. I routinely perform procedures to treat malignant and benign conditions affecting the lungs, airway, chest wall and the foregut. I strongly believe in the importance of educating patients and families about their condition so that we can better tackle it together. My patients can expect a multidisciplinary approach to care that includes expertise from oncologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, primary care doctors and other physicians. This collaborative team is committed to doing all we can to help each patient recover and lead a higher quality of life. My research is focused on strategies to optimize short- and long-term outcomes for patients with thoracic conditions, as well as gender disparities in cancer care. I am also interested in improving early detection of lung cancer and increasing awareness about the importance of screenings. My research has been widely published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, and I serve as a reviewer for several prestigious publications including JAMA Network Open, the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Journal of Surgical Education. I often discuss my work at conferences around the country and am a member of multiple professional organizations such as the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. My role includes serving as a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. I am passionate about educating the next generation of physicians and have been honored to receive several teaching awards throughout my career.
