The nationally and internationally recognized uveal melanoma research team at the OSUCCC – James spans a broad range of disciplines — medical, surgical and radiation oncologists; radiologists; pharmacists; pathologists; and geneticists — each specializing in specific areas of melanoma research.

It’s that subspecialization and singular focus that enables this team to discover, develop and deliver research outcomes that lead to the most advanced surgical treatments, refined clinical procedures and highly targeted, precision therapies for each patient — which can mean improved outcomes, faster responses, fewer side effects and even more hope for uveal melanoma patients everywhere.

Primary Research Team

Mohamed H Abdel-Rahman, MD, PhD
I am a member of the Cancer Biology Program at the OSUCCC – James, where my research is focused on molecular diagnosis of ocular melanoma, identification of novel targets for ocular melanoma therapy and hereditary predisposition to ocular melanoma.
Kari L Kendra, MD, PHD
I am a medical oncologist focusing on skin cancers and a professor of internal medicine.
Claire F Verschraegen, MD
I am a professor of medicine and director of the Division of Medical Oncology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Richard C Wu, MD, PHD
I am a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in treating patients with cutaneous lymphoma and other types of skin cancer.

I am a surgical oncologist who specializes in skin and soft tissue cancers, including melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma.
Mary E Dillhoff, MD
I’m a surgical oncologist with a specialty in diagnosing and treating patients with tumors of the pancreas, liver, bile duct and stomach.

I am a radiation oncologist and Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University.

I am a radiation oncologist who specializes in treating patients who have been diagnosed with gynecologic cancers.

I am a medical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of breast cancer.
Amanda E Toland, PhD
I am a member of the Cancer Biology Program at the OSUCCC – James, where my research focuses on identifying naturally occurring gene variations that affect cancer susceptibility, as well as mutations that drive tumors, in order to better prevent cancers in high-risk individuals, understand tumor growth and identify new targets for therapy and prevention.
