Approximately 10 rising seniors are selected each year for this program.
Once selected, each student is assigned to a state-of-the-art research facility where they can immerse themselves in the research experience alongside a Principal Investigator, a daily supervisor and a dedicated team of researchers, including undergraduate students, graduate students and physicians. While the primary purpose of the program is to provide each student with a deeper understanding of cancer, hands-on experience within a cancer research lab and a lifelong network of individuals who share their interest in advancing scientific knowledge, it’s not just the student who benefits. Our research team members gain invaluable insight into each student’s goals and interests, and learn important strategies to improve their mentoring skills while sharing their expertise with a new generation of scientists.
Our cancer research program focuses solely on laboratory-based research. We do not conduct any clinical trials or directly involve human subjects in our studies.
In addition to the benefits of lab experience, each student will be paid $13/hour if all requirements are met, including:
- Work 38 hours per week within the research program (exact hours/day are determined by the lab)
- Stay in Columbus for the entire 8 week program (no vacations, no exceptions)
- Attend weekly events, meetings and presentations (as directed by program leaders and lab personnel)
- Are a Columbus-area student
- Complete an end-of-summer poster presentation
- Selected applicants will have to complete a physical and drug screening prior to hire
The program will take place June 2-July 25, 2025 and will include campus tours, presentations by distinguished faculty and staff, weekly roundtables with graduate student advisors and networking opportunities.
Applications are open through Feburary 16th, 2025.
