Student researchers at Kenyon College (Gambier, OH) have the unique opportunity to conduct cancer-related research thanks to a Pelotonia-inspired partnership between Kenyon and the OSUCCC – James.
Each year, Kenyon College faculty and staff members select six students to spend their summers in labs across The Ohio State University campus. Each student is matched with a lab that most closely aligns with their research interests and qualifications.
Student participants complete a 10-week research project alongside Ohio State faculty members and graduate and postdoctoral students, where they can immerse themselves in the cancer research experience, engage with the community and participate in a variety of activities, including a weekly journal club in which they select and present cancer-focused articles to fellow student researchers.
At the end of the summer, the students present their research project findings to their peers, mentors and Kenyon College faculty.
Since the program began in 2012, 54 students have participated, many of whom have continued to advance their education in the sciences and passionately pursue careers in medicine.
Supported by the OSUCCC – James using Pelotonia funds, students receive a stipend and housing.
